System Shutdown: Day 29 - Where is the Work Ethic?
We are now on Day 29 of the Republican government shutdown. Twenty-nine days.
This is a complete and total failure of leadership, and it's a stunning display of professional irresponsibility.
In my career as a System Engineer, I have seen critical systems go down. When that happens, you don't go home. You don't take a vacation. You work the problem until it's fixed. I once worked almost 50 hours straight, doing everything possible alongside my team, to get a critical system back up and running at 100%. Why? Because that was the job. That was the responsibility we accepted.
Now, compare that work ethic to what we're seeing from the Republican Caucus in Washington. They control the House, the Senate, and the White House. They own this shutdown, 100%.
Instead of rolling up their sleeves and doing the hard, 24/7 work of negotiation and compromise, they seem content to let this crisis drag on, treating it like a personal vacation from their responsibilities.
Members of Congress were elected to do a job. They are failing to even show up for work. They are abandoning their posts.
This isn't just a failure of policy; it's a failure of basic work ethic. It's a failure to respect the jobs they were hired to do and the people they swore an oath to serve.
As a System Engineer, I know what it takes to fix complex problems. It takes dedication, it takes collaboration, and it takes showing up, especially when things are tough. That's the commitment I'll bring to Washington. It's time we had representatives who actually do the work.
